Things I love (009): American Comics
Jul. 24th, 2012 03:08 amI can't show love for manga without showing any love for American Comics. I LOVE American Comics. I have so many favorite people between Marvel and DC (although I'm a bigger Marvel fan than DC ^^). I learned about comics from my uncle who is a big Marvel fan and told me all about the characters I used to watch on the Saturday morning cartoons. The artists is amazing! Thanks to my uncle and brother (who is a budding artist, but won't draw slash for me boo lol) I know about Jack Kirby, Stan Lee, and ugh the name fails me, but he's amazing and does amazing art.
I guess you could call me a nerd because I do know about Marvel and DC and who's over it now and the history behind it. I loved how things changed to fit the times of America now. Like the gay marriage cover for the Amazing X-Men or the African American Spiderman in the Ultimate verse. Not to mention the story lines and characters and there are just so many things about American comics that I can't even describe.
I mean these comics were going on before my parents and uncles were born yet there is something that me and my brothers know and love. I have individual characters that I will show love for later, but now I'm going to talk about my love for American Comics.
I know there are so many opinions over who are the best authors, editors, writers, and things, but I love that there is so much history within American Comics. I'm not an artist, but I've learned art styles through my uncle and brother. I've taken notes on how to make characters and write story lines that people would love and what not to do to such popular characters. Then I realized that with comics it's possible to write what you want when you get there.
I don't have a comic book collection, but I make sure to keep up to date with Marvel and DC so I'm not very lost. I can remember times I've read my uncle's comics and asked so many questions about it. The thing I love about comics are the way you can find a character to love and a storyline to be invested in. There was a hero to believe in and an enemy you hated, but also love at the same time. The art blows me away because each artist has a definite style. The complex characters, storylines, and tons of universes where there are so many possibilities.
It's always pretty funny to show people in RL that I know comics. It's always 0_0 when I tell them about things I know or how I love the Fantastic Four and is a big Bruce Banner and Tony Stark fan. I love Bruce Wayne too so it really messes with their minds for some reason lol.
Comics are another way for me and my family to bond even my mom reads them and that's something.
I love American Comics and to be a writer for that would be amazing.
