I spent all day trying to write the cute fic of Amy/Jasmine (no canon name yet, but that's the name of it XD) and I've been stuck on one part all day and it makes me so frustrated because the part I'm stuck on is describing Jasmine who's an African American woman. I'm an African American woman and I can't describe Jasmine.

Yes I'm sure there's a lot that goes into why I'm having problems, but right now I'm really frustrated that I spent all day on that.

Have you considered finding a visual reference and describing it? I do that a lot.

Like, people who read my stuff would probably be surprised how much time I spend on google images...

I see her in my head and I have a person in mind for her it's just describing her skin tone that's bothering me. Like that's stopping me because I don't want to just write she's brown or anything like that. That's bothering me. >

OK, I thought about this for a bit.

My trick when deprived of a suitable word in english is to make like Emily Dickinson and slam a lot of impressionistic words together to create the illusion of the word I want. Say- how does the shade of brown make the viewer feel? What is compelling about it? Somewhere in these aspects lies the perfect analogy!

I'll try it! Hopefully it will help me write about her because I find it so frustrating, but I feel better after not looking at it for a while.
